Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a former panelist and host of the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including budget reform, tax reform, and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She traveled frequently together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
